Here we see a young woman being fitted in her new dress at the tailor. Her dress is definitely the latest fashion during this era as indicated by its very large 7ft diameter! With a dress like that she will definitely be the talk of the neighborhood!!!!
It's interesting to note the dress that the tailor is wearing. Though it's hard to see behind the massive skirt she is working on, she is wearing a skirt that is only 3 ft wide! How strange you you may think, skirts that small have been out of fashion for more than 100 years! Most women would be humiliated to be seen in a skirt that small. However this is a special circumstance. This is a work outfit that she wears only because it would be nearly impossible to hem such a large dress while wearing an equally large skirt herself!
Skirts that small would only be worn in situations like this and she would change into a more properly sized skirt as soon as she Is finished with the adjustments. In fact she will probably be back in a dress not much smaller than her clients before she leaves the store with her new dress!

🚇A dingy old subway station, walls chipped to pieces, while waiting for a ride home / w/ grey!
Eerie Atmospheric Settings: Plot Starters / accepting / @coveitous
An announcement echoed off the crumbling walls, spoken in German and through a speaker that was too far away to make out the words. BJ looked like he could have been German... well, maybe. Tall, blond, blue-eyed, muscular. Probably like any old soldier around these parts. He stood over the bench— must've walked three miles from where he'd been staked out all day to this here subway station— and sighed quietly as it wasn't totally empty. That meant he had to speak. In German. And in the words of his compatriot, Wesley, 'your German? Frankly, it's atrocious. So no talking.' But how in the fuck was he supposed to get any better at it if he wasn't supposed to go usin' it? Didn't make any goddamn sense. If he busted out English, that'd blow his cover.
"Is this seat taken?" he asked the only other man around this whole damn station— the one on the bench, "Can I please sit here next to you?"
Felt and probably sounded pretty damn stupid to say. Even when speaking in German, the Texas twang snuck through.
#[if this being set somewhere German is spoken doesn’t work. lemme know.]#[in the wolfenstein universe the USA is actually taken over by the Germans and English ends up banned]#[in the alternate history's 1950s? iirc]#[so. we could do that. or i could do something Completely Different and just. not have German be spoken. up to you!]#🔪 in character 🦅#sorrowsick#coveitous

Our dress is our answer to a dull world.
In 1953, the major newspapers reported on the sweeping trend in men's fashion across all the towns in Britain - the New Edwardian look. In September a Daily Express headline shortened Edward to Teddy and coined the term 'Teddy Boy'. 'The Working Class Edwardian' were British teenagers who represented the vanguard of youth culture.
The Teddy Boy is a uniquely British phenomenon. The fashion of the 1950s has its origins in what was a reaction to the austerity imposed by the socialist government in the years following the World War II. The style of dress was addressed, primarily, to the young aristocratic men, but the Great British Teddy Boy is a rebel of conformity and therefore wears a Style. For working class youths, their fashion was not only aesthetic, but also a slap in the face to upper class society in rebellion against the class system.
The female counterpart to Teddy Boys, known as Teddy Girls or Judies, were the punk rock girls of their time. While older English women welcomed the return to femininity and elegance, Teddy Girls, on the contrary, embraced the new unisex trends that the war brought. They wore frock jackets, pencil skirts, rolled-up jeans, three-quarter length trousers (so-called pedal pushers), espadrilles and other shoes without heels.
Like their male counterparts, they wore thin ties with a bow or a scarf with a brooch. Some even carried a long umbrella, imitating a walking cane. Hair played an equally important role. Girls wore their hair cut short, combed into a stylish ponytail or they styled their hair 'Gibson Girl', swept up on top.
Post-war Britain was fertile ground for many subcultures in the second half of the 20th century. It was a time of insecurity, poverty and turmoil, but it was also a time of damn stylish rebels.

The thrilling sequel to Widowland, a feminist dystopian novel set in an alternative history that terrifyingly imagines what a British alliance with Germany would look like if the Nazis had won WWII. London, 1955. The Leader has been dead for two years. His assassination, on British soil, provoked violent retribution and intensified repression of British citizens, particularly women. Now, more…

Dressed for a BIG night out!
Here we see a young woman dressed in a more formal hoop skirt. A dress like this would be worn to a dinner party, a dance, restaurant or even a trip to the theater! Formal dresses like this were usually around 6ft-7ft wide. Wide enough that it was much better to wear out and about to spaces that were made for such large dresses. By this point in time most buildings were designed and furnished with 6ft gowns in mind. Most doors were at least 5ft wide and there was a 6ft minimum width on all hallways. Seating arrangements were also more space to make room for what at the time were massive dresses! It is interesting to note how similar the styling of this dress is to dresses from this era in our world, with exception of its volume of course.

Once you call yourself a Negro, the scientifically written you out of existence. There is no land called Negro, no language or culture- Malcolm X
Right now, in this country, if you and I, 22 million African-Americans -- that's what we are -- Africans who are in America. You're nothing but Africans. Nothing but Africans. In fact, you'd get farther calling yourself African instead of Negro.
Black names don't exist, black land does not exist, black language does not exist. Human skin comes from the darkest brown to the lightest hues. We are Africans. African populations have the highest levels of genetic variation among all humans.- Khepri Neteru
By the early 1900s, nigger had become a pejorative word in the United States. In its stead, the term colored became the mainstream alternative to negro and its derived terms. After the American Civil Rights Movement, the terms colored and negrogave way to "black". Negro had superseded colored as the most polite word for African Americans at a time when black was considered more offensive.[126][failed verification] This term was accepted as normal, including by people classified as Negroes, until the later Civil Rights movement in the late 1960s. One well-known example is the use by Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. of "Negro" in his famous speech of 1963, I Have a Dream. During the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, some African-American leaders in the United States, notably Malcolm X, objected to the word Negrobecause they associated it with the long history of slavery, segregation, and discrimination that treated African Americans as second-class citizens, or worse.[127] Malcolm X preferred Black to Negro, but later gradually abandoned that as well for Afro-American after leaving the Nation of Islam.[128]
Since the late 1960s, various other terms for African Americans have been more widespread in popular usage. Aside from black American, these include Afro-American (in use from the late 1960s to 1990) and African American (used in the United States to refer to Black Americans, people often referred to in the past as American Negroes).[129]
In the first 200 years that black people were in the United States, they primarily identified themselves by their specific ethnic group (closely allied to language) and not by skin color. Individuals identified themselves, for example, as Ashanti, Igbo, Bakongo, or Wolof. However, when the first captives were brought to the Americas, they were often combined with other groups from West Africa, and individual ethnic affiliations were not generally acknowledged by English colonists. In areas of the Upper South, different ethnic groups were brought together. This is significant as the captives came from a vast geographic region: the West African coastline stretching from Senegal to Angola and in some cases from the south-east coast such as Mozambique. A new African-American identity and culture was born that incorporated elements of the various ethnic groups and of European cultural heritage, resulting in fusions such as the Black church and African-American English. This new identity was based on provenance and slave status rather than membership in any one ethnic group.
By contrast, slave records from Louisiana show that the French and Spanish colonists recorded more complete identities of the West Africans, including ethnicities and given tribal names.
The U.S. racial or ethnic classification "black" refers to people with all possible kinds of skin pigmentation, from the darkest through to the very lightest skin colors, including albinos, if they are believed by others to have African ancestry (in any discernible percentage). There are also certain cultural traits associated with being "African American", a term used effectively as a synonym for "black person" within the United States

I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE ASSOCIATING ALASTOR WITH ONLY JAMBALAYA SO HERE ARE OTHER CREOLE DISHES YOU HEATHENS
Fanfiction and Comic creators, this is for you especially.
Crawfish Étouffée
This beautiful dish was invented in Breaux Bridge Louisiana, where our favourite radio star is from! Although it's invention is attributed the Herbet Hotel in the 1950s -after Alastors death- it is a classic.
Crawfish Étouffée has a sauce typically made from a blonde roux with that classic cajun seasoning. It contains the Holy Trinity of cajun cooking too: bell peppers, onions and celery. The main meat of this dish is crawfish tails and it is usually served with carbs like cornbread, cajun rice or vegetables such as green beans and potato salad.
It is chock full of flavour, and a filling inexpensive dish for low income families - which I believe Alastor is from.
Some alternatives to the crawfish are chicken and shrimp.
-----
The difference between Étouffée and Gumbo.
These two often get mixed up, and I understand, they're both classic Bayou dishes. Here's how to differentiate them.
Texture: Both dishes use shrimp, chicken, or crawfish tail broth. BUT Jumbo has a thicker consistency, it's made from a dark roux and it tends to use more liquid to remain stew-like.
Flavour: Gumbo and Étouffée both use Cajun seasoning, but due to Étouffées blonde roux, it has a lighter, sweeter taste than the darker, fullness of flavour in Gumbo.
Meat: Gumbo uses a variety of meats at the same time (often shrimp and sausage are key components), as mentioned in the alternatives above, Étouffée typically does not.
-----
2. Red Beans and Rice
We're on a roll guys! This is another dish from Louisiana! Although, it is specifically associated with New Orleans, where Alastor hosted his radio show. It has a fascinating history, partly due to it's African and French/Spanish routes - But it was also a struggle meal during the Great Depression. It was originally a Creole, not Cajun dish.
(Note: Red Beans and Kidney Beans are different legumes)
This dish also contains the Holy Trinity, as well as bay leaves, oregano, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and more. Its protein comes from Andouille sausages, but like Gumbo, a variety of meats are used. If you want Alastor to be traditional about it, he should make it on a Monday incorporating the left over ham bones from Sunday dinner. It is also complimented with long grain white rice and green beans, amongst many other things.
Considering Alastor witnessed the Stock Market Crash of 1929 -which led to the Great Depression - There is no way he hasn't come across this dish before.
3. Creole Bread Pudding
The queen of Creole Dessert has arrived. Can you guess where she's from? DING-DING-DING! That's right! New Orleans Louisiana baby! Recipes of this treat have been recorded since 1885, so it suffices to say she's a classic.
Like most bread puddings, it is made by combining stale bread (preferably French), beaten eggs and milk. However, this variation often has an incredible amount of vanilla extract. What it will be complimented with varies from person to person. Some examples are: Whipped meringue and whisky, raisins and apple, or walnuts and butter.
Although not as popular in the modern day, I like to imagine this is something Mimzy, Rosie and Alastor might share together on a day out.
-----
There you go! I hope you enjoyed this - but more importantly I hope this helps people create a more diverse version of those cosy Alastor cooking scenes that I love.

4th of July family album, 1950s-70s. The good ol’ days, a reminder of how things USED to be. Kids these days will never know the simple joy of summoning meat demons from the void dimensions to grill on an open fire. Back then we weren’t “taking selfies,” we were building bone golems of ourselves to bring to brief unholy life so we could ignite them into flames.
We didn’t need “apps to have fun, we were outside celebrating America by self-immolating and roaming the streets smoldering with hellfire. I can still smell the burning skin! And we didn’t even get hurt, because we were just tougher back then; and also conducted human sacrifices that granted us protection, but you’d get “cancelled” for that these days.
No one complained if you wanted to fill the lake with the blood of cursed swine to bring it to a boil, and we weren’t shy about skinny dipping in it, heck we’d strip down to our bones as we gnawed on each others’ melting flesh - a little snack before heading home for barbecued ribs cracked right off the crispy meat demons.
As night fell we’d sing songs that might not be “politically correct” today just because they were the six profane recitations of Zasorael which brought forth the Araknoloids, but that’s just how things were back then: Men were men, women were women, and the Araknaloids were giant bloodthirsty hellspiders who lit up the sky with ectoplasmic glory when we fed them explosives. And as their flaming bones rained down upon the sky, burning our houses and cars and grandma, we weren’t afraid to say GOD BLESS AMERICA.
